Growing Aster Fujimi in Bangladesh

Aster is generally considered a cooler-season flowering crop, so timing is particularly important in Bangladesh. For the best plant development and flower quality, growers should preferably schedule production during the cooler and relatively dry months, rather than attempting to produce premium-quality flowers during the peak heat and humidity of summer.

For Bangladesh, a practical approach is to raise seedlings during the cooler season and transplant them when temperatures are more favourable. Good air circulation, full sunlight, well-drained soil and careful irrigation are particularly important because Bangladesh’s humid conditions can increase the risk of fungal and bacterial problems.

For commercial growers, Fujimi can be cultivated at relatively high density. Commercial culture information lists approximately 80 plants/m² (around 7 plants/ft²) under suitable conditions.

Because Bangladesh can experience high temperatures, intense sunlight and high humidity, growers should not judge Fujimi’s performance solely from results obtained in temperate countries.

For better results:

• Choose the cooler growing window.
• Provide strong morning-to-afternoon sunlight where possible.
• Use a loose, fertile and well-drained growing medium.
• Avoid prolonged waterlogging.
• Water the root zone rather than continuously wetting the foliage.
• Maintain good spacing and ventilation to reduce humidity around plants.
• Monitor regularly for aphids, thrips, mites, leafhoppers, rust, Botrytis and other common Aster problems.
• For commercial production, crop rotation is advisable, particularly because Fusarium and other soil-borne problems can accumulate when the same crop is repeatedly grown in the same area.
