Abamectin 1.8% EC is a broad-spectrum insecticide + miticide + acaricide.

It is highly effective against:

  • mites
  • thrips
  • leaf miners
  • whiteflies (some species)
  • caterpillars / larvae (early stages)
  • borers
  • nematodes (limited use in some formulations)

Major benefits

A) Excellent control of mites

One of the best chemicals for:

  • red spider mites
  • two-spotted spider mites
  • broad mites

This is why it is extremely popular in:

  • chili
  • brinjal
  • cucumber
  • rose
  • tea gardens

B) Translaminar action

This is one of its strongest advantages.

It penetrates leaf tissue and reaches pests hidden on the underside of leaves.

Very useful for:

  • leaf miners
  • mites under leaf surface

C) Contact + stomach poison

Pests die by:

  • direct spray contact
  • feeding on treated plant tissue

D) Rapid paralysis

It attacks the nervous system and stops feeding quickly.

Pests usually:

  • stop feeding within 6–24 hours
  • die within 2–4 days

E) Good residual effect

Normally remains effective for 5–10 days, depending on:

  • sunlight
  • rain
  • temperature
  • crop canopy

General Application Rate

For Abamectin 1.8 EC, the most common general rate is:

Foliar spray: 0.5 ml to 1 ml per liter of water (This is the standard home gardening rate.)

Per 16-liter knapsack sprayer

8–16 ml per tank

For severe infestation: 15–20 ml / 16 L

Best practice

Spray during:

  • early morning
  • late afternoon / evening

Never spray in strong sunlight.

Spray coverage

Very important: spray both upper and lower leaf surfaces

Especially for:

  • mites
  • thrips
  • leaf miner larvae

Repeat interval

Repeat every: 5–7 days

For heavy infestation: 3 consecutive sprays

This often gives near complete control.

Reddit grower experience also strongly supports 3 weekly sprays for mite eradication.

Precautions

Very important because Abamectin is moderately toxic.

Personal protection

Use:

  • gloves
  • mask / respirator
  • goggles
  • full sleeves

Avoid spraying

Do NOT spray:

  • during flowering
  • before rainfall
  • in windy conditions
  • indoors

Keep away from

  • children
  • pets
  • fish ponds
  • bees

Highly toxic to fish and aquatic life

Re-entry period

Wait at least: 12–24 hours before touching plants.
